But it is not a kill and blood fest; rather it is an instructional video on the art of hunting the world’s largest land mammal. Exciting, well-paced footage takes you up-close and personal with large bulls and mean tusksless cow elephants, which are known to be highly neurotic and prone to charges. Everything is covered: preparation before the hunt, shot placement, caliber recommendations, bolt action versus double, elephant maturity, and the formula for assessing ivory in the bush. Then there are interviews with three of the greatest living elephant hunters of our age: Ian Nyschens, Richard Harland, and Sten Cedergren. Buzz Charlton tells all about backup shots: the why, what, and when. He explains the body language of agitated elephants, why PHs prefer brain shots over body shots, how to quickly see the difference between a cow and a bull in the field, and when to recognize the beginning of a deadly elephant charge. Buzz Charlton delves into the challenges of hunting elephant cows and the dangers of this type of hunting.
