Very good quality footage of bear hunts in America’s north country marks this DVD by Alaskan guide and outfitter Jimmie Rosenbruch. Hunting for black and brown bears from the luxury yacht the Alaskan Solitude, Jimmie and his daughter Alicia show us what it’s like to go after these coastal giants in southeastern Alaska. It is noteworthy that Rosenbruches strongly recommend a .375 caliber or bigger because the vegetation is so thick that even a bear “dead as a doornail” can easily be lost once it falls over in the tangled jungle of interwoven branches and vines. The clients are flown in via floatplane, and the hunting is conducted by sailing around from one inlet to another and then getting to land with a small skiff. About a dozen bears get shot on camera, and except for a silly plug midway for a optics company, this DVD is well worth the money.
